Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are thinking about learning to fly or chartering an aircraft there are always a number of questions that need to be answered. Here we hope to clear up a few of those questions, but if you have any others please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • How long does it take to learn to fly?

  • That really depends on how much work you can do, everyone takes a different amount of time to become a Commercial pilot or even a recreational pilot it will depend on the number of days you can fly or study. Generally most people can complete a Commercial Pilots Licence in about 18 months (full time).

  • Is flying dangerous?

  • The most dangerous thing about flying is driving to the airport. There is a perception that flying is dangerous and this can in part be blamed on the media, on the rare occasions that an aircraft "crashes" it is broadcast on many stations and usually for a couple of days. Imagine if they did this with all minor car crashes, we would need a 24hr car crash station.

  • Why does flying cost so much?

  • Does it cost a lot? A 3 year university degree costs about the same as a Commercial Pilots Licence the only difference is that it cannot be claimed on the Higher Education Contribution Scheme. Also the cost of running a flight school are quite high, this can again be contributed to the perception of danger which increases costs of insurance that other business do not have to bare

  • Are Multi-engine aircraft safer?

  • All aircraft are safe no matter how many engines they have. Its all to do with perception again, everyone is happy with one engine for their car and considering the safety precautions in aviation the chances of having an engine fail is extremely remote.

  • Can I charter an aircraft to go anywhere in Australia

  • Almost always yes, there are alot of smaller towns that have small aerodromes that can be operated into by Aero Dynamic the main problems are runway length and aircraft loading that may restrict some aerodromes.
